Do you like to paint, eat good food, and meet new people? Come out to Open Paint by CATA, an admission-free, all-ages social event, now at Cyclismo Cafe. Located next to Caltrain in downtown Redwood City at 871 Middlefield Rd, Redwood City, CA 94063. Please RSVP and join our Facebook event listing!
No admission cost. We provide paint, brushes, vinyl sheets for painting, and a few large “fill-in-the-blank” collaborative canvases designed by local artists. Small and large canvases for personal use are available by donation. Beverages and food, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, available for purchase.
Your donations and a percentage of all food/beverage purchases sustain Open Paint and keep it accessible to community members of all means. Donations also support CATA murals and advocacy efforts in Redwood City and the mid-Peninsula.
Open Paint takes place the first Thursday of every month, from 5-8 PM. Each event features a local non-profit and a local artist. While the event is free-form (meaning no guided instruction), our featured artist can provide painting tips upon request. See photos from past Open Paints here.

Become a Featured Artist!
In addition to providing participants with paint, brushes and blank canvases, we would like to hang a few canvases with “fill-in-the-blank” designs that highlight the work of local artists–like yourself!
We will feature two artists per event. As a featured artist, we ask that you contribute one or two designs to each event. You are encouraged to participate in multiple events, and if convenient, you are welcome to use the same designs at each.
In gratitude for your participation in Open Paint and support of CATA, we will:
- exhibit one of your art pieces during your designated event
- paint your name in large, conspicuous font onto that night’s event banner
- include your name + website in digital event pages and communications
- share your promotional materials (like business cards or whatever) at our registration table
- give you a shoutout and an opportunity to speak about your art briefly during the event
To confirm your participation, reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Open Paint Featured Artist” in the subject line.
Donate Art Supplies
This event is a volunteer-run fundraiser for CATA. As such, we greatly appreciate any and all donations (or loans) of the below supplies. Help us keep this event running as the premier impact-oriented paint social in the Peninsula!
- acrylic paint (all colors accepted, but primary colors, black, and white are the best!)
- stretched canvas
- paint brushes
- alternative, fun paint surfaces (like old windows, frames, etc.)
Join the CATA Team
