CATA is $1,500 closer to its first street art mural!
Last Thursday night, CATA presented to the Redwood City Civic Cultural Commission (CCC) as part of a larger grant application of the Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation (RWCPAF). In total, RWCPAF received $4,500 from the CCC to divide equally among its Chalk Art Festival, Secret Garden and CATA projects. RWCPAF received the second largest disbursement of funds from the CCC, out of 17 applying organizations.
The cost of street art murals, including artist commission and paint, can easily cost between $20-30 per square foot — or higher! This means that a simple 20’x10′ wall could easily require $6,000 to cover in a beautiful, professional mural.
The CCC grant is a fantastic step forward for CATA, but we still have plenty of funds to raise. Considering donating to our project on the RWCPAF website, and help us use street art to raise awareness of important issues in Redwood City and the Bay Area. Be sure to mention CATA in your donation comments!

After lots of template crafting and tweaking color schemes, the CATA website it now live. So what’s next?
Community partners! Working closely with the Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation board, we will be approaching local businesses with two asks:
- Please lend us a wall to paint a CATA mural?
- How about helping us out with the costs of the mural? (Paint and top-notch artists are expensive!)
When we approach businesses, we’ll be equipped with facts. Claire and Cary have spent the last researching the tops issues facing Redwood City. We’ve arrived at three to focus on for the next few months: Affordable Housing, homelessness and human trafficking. Read our research on our causes page.
Hopefully, our research, snappy marketing materials and overwhelming passion will be enough to bring some local sponsors on-board with CATA. Stay tuned!
We’re excited to have a website to represent CATA. Let us know what you think! Also, check out the Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation website at www.rwcpaf.org. They have other awesome art projects in addition to CATA.
