Open Paint now at Cyclismo Cafe

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our old Open Paint location, Pizza and Pints, is now closed. We’ve relocated to the nearby Cyclismo Cafe at 871 Middlefield Road. It’s a few shops down from Cinemark, right next to the Redwood City Caltrain and across the street from the 900 Middlefield Road Parking garage.

Our event will continue with the same structure as before, with free admission, free-flowing paint, featured local artists, and featured non-profits. In addition to an exciting new layout with a patio, Cyclismo Cafe offers a robust menu, with high-quality coffee and artisanal sandwiches, bowls and salads. If you’re a foodie, check out pictures of their dishes on Yelp. They’re great people, too. We’re excited.

Open Paint grows and extends!

Due to popular demand, we’re extending our Open Paint series until the end of March! You can find photos from our first three months here. We’ll continue to promote Open Paint as the best, most accessible painting event in the San Francisco Bay Area. Open Paint serves as a space for community members from all walks of life to gather, paint, support local artists, and learn about great non-profits.

We are looking for additional artists and non-profits to feature throughout the next three months. If you have ideas, please email Cary Kelly at

CATA receives $1,500 grant from CCC

CATA is $1,500 closer to its first street art mural!

Last Thursday night, CATA presented to the Redwood City Civic Cultural Commission (CCC) as part of a larger grant application of the Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation (RWCPAF). In total, RWCPAF received $4,500 from the CCC to divide equally among its Chalk Art Festival, Secret Garden and CATA projects. RWCPAF received the second largest disbursement of funds from the CCC, out of 17 applying organizations.

The cost of street art murals, including artist commission and paint, can easily cost between $20-30 per square foot — or higher! This means that a simple 20’x10′ wall could easily require $6,000 to cover in a beautiful, professional mural.

The CCC grant is a fantastic step forward for CATA, but we still have plenty of funds to raise. Considering donating to our project on the RWCPAF website, and help us use street art to raise awareness of important issues in Redwood City and the Bay Area. Be sure to mention CATA in your donation comments!
